One of the oldest zoos in the world, the Saigon Zoo and Botanical gardens established in 1864, almost 156 yrs old. This place is a familiar destination for city dwellers. For me, it becomes a part of childhood memories. The facilities are not modern enough to attract many of us. However, we loved our visit during a hot week in Saigon, where the huge and very old trees, lush plantings, and interesting animal enclosures made for a wonderful experience. Although located in the heart of town, the temperatures were considerably cooler than in the rest of the city, it was very peaceful, and flowers and butterflies were everywhere.

Previous reviews noted that the animals were not well cared for, but we found that the conditions were good overall. The tigers need more space however, and it was sad to see them continuously pacing. I was impressed by the improvements that had been made since my last visit several years ago and I will be coming back much more often now. Highly recommended, and a wonderful place to bring children!
