Philadelphia-area Soul record of which not much is known. It was produced by Clarence Lawton, who produced many recordings in the tri-state area in the 60s & 70s. Clarence also produced 3 songs for a group called The Commotions for the Blue Rock and Capitol labels, as well as his own Lawton label. While it’s not been confirmed, it’s long been speculated that both The Camotions and The Commotions are one and the same. If they are in fact the same group, this would place “Sonny” and the B-Side, “Motown,” at around a 1967-1968 release date. “Motown” was written by Collie Williams, a member of the Philadelphia Doo-Wop group, The Students, who had 2 released for the Red Top label. Red Top was owned by Irv Nahan, Marvin “Red Top” Schwartz and organist, Doc Bagby.
