This is one possible pathway to how caffeine impacts sleep.

The original research is kind of old from 80s/90s. I came across another one done on rats where they said that extra receptors don’t play much of a role. But then some others said they do. Either way no one else had a better explanation. Or at least I didn’t come across it.

Key take away is not to stop caffeine, I consume it myself. It brings joy. The learning is simply to avoid falling into a loop where we are repeatedly suppressing sleep in ways that maybe unfavourable for us.

And the good thing is - even if we do develop an unfavourable habit due to demands of life - our highly supportive and adaptable bodies will also help us readjust that habit whenever we are ready for it. 🙂
