I Bought The Worlds First 3D Phone! | Sharp SH251iS

After years of waiting I have finally acquired what is considered to be the very first phone with a 3D display. The 2002 Sharp SH251is.
The SH251is like many other cool Japan only phones was launched 21 years ago with a feature like no other, a 3D display. This technology is old school 3D, using a 3D Parallax Barrier instead of more modern designs. Its is still surprisingly good and still works fine after all the years. Sharp does not get enough credit for the technology they developed years ago which paved the way for modern phone displays. They were also the company to design the worlds first borderless smartphone the Sharp Aquos Crystal and many of the original 3D displays in phones were designed and built by Sharp. Sharp does not hold a significant presence in the modern smartphone market but their technology definitely does!
Being the worlds first 3D phone, it is a very basic flip phone, very unassuming from afar and apart from its unusual display, does not have any other outstanding features. I had to import this from Japan as it was only released in Japan on the NTT Docomo network. It is in surprisingly good shape and works just fine apart from having a weak battery which is expected at this age.
This phone is extremely rare and generally gets overlooked as the 3D boom in the 2010's and google search results usually credits the HTC Evo 3D as the worlds first 3D phone which is not even close to being accurate. There were heaps of Japanese and Korean market only devices from the early 2000's which had 3D displays and later, even 3D camera's which are extremely hard to find anymore.
This video will be the first of many videos that will cover this phone. I will first have to learn to navigate this phone efficiently in Japanese as there is no changing the language in it.
