Welcome to Bowlers Paradise!
Haven’t we seen this before? The bright orange and blue solid top of the line asym? Well, either way, here comes Brunswick with their all new Mindset headlining the top tier of performance and technology for their line. This fuzzy monster is powered inside by the all new and unique Mindset core, wrapped in the Evolution Solid cover finished to 1500 out of the box.
The 5 x 4 x 3 2LS layout is one that is similar to what we put on the radical crypto. Yes, I realize that piece was symmetrical, but the design intents seem similar in that both that and the Mindset are slow transitioning, kind of chuggy type motions. That worked well on the crypto, so the hope was that I would see more of the same.
And on the lanes, the Mindset look pretty good. It was a touch stronger than expected, but as the surface wore in a bit, I was able to find some good lines to and through the pocket. If you have watched any of my other reviews, you know that big solid asyms and I typically don’t match up well, so while my expectations weren’t very high, they were definitely exceeded.
One that that I found really interesting when throwing the mindset was how low to the pin deck the pins stayed. That is not a characteristic of Weston Lanes, so it was definitely the ball, and something I would expect that has to do with dynamicore. When a ball is rolling this heavy through the pins, that’s a huge added bonus as it increases your carry percentage in a significant way. Simply put, when the pins hit eachother, they’re more likely to call over.
On the downsides, I can think of a couple. First, is a big dull asym and behaves that way. This is another situational piece, and is not a go-to option in a variety of settings for most bowlers. The second is the overlap with some of the other Brunswick balls. There’s just no need to have more than one of this, the Hellcat, the Archetype, the Envy or the Trailblazer Solid.
But with that, here’s my recommendations on types of bowlers that I think would match up well with this piece. The first is high tilt players. Since this shape is very reminiscent of the Storm Sure Lock, and I know how well high tilt players could score with that ball, I expect more of the same with the Mindset. The second is full rollers. This piece rolls hard and heavy, which is typically something a full roller needs, but it also has some good pop downlane and keeps the pins low, increasing their carry percentage.
The all new Mindset from Brunswick might not be for everyone, but if you and your game match up with it, it’ll keep your mind set on outstriking your competition
