Opening the Cabin for Spring | Planting in a Forrest

Описание к видео Opening the Cabin for Spring | Planting in a Forrest

Welcome back to the cabin! It's been four months since we last visited, and winter really did a number on the place. While the cabin itself is fine, the heavy snow and strong winds caused significant damage to our pine trees. We had previously hired someone to clean up the dead and downed pines, but now we have another mess on our hands.
This trip, we brought up 40-50 white spruce trees from our local Conservation District to plant around the cabin for more shelter and to enhance the beauty of the area. Before we could start planting, we had to clear away the fallen trees and get the fire going to burn the debris. It was a lot of unexpected work, but we pushed through it.
We used an auger to plant the white spruces, spacing them 9 feet apart along the property line where they will get plenty of sunlight. These trees are native to Michigan and can grow up to 2 feet per year in good conditions, which is faster than we expected. We hope they will provide privacy and beauty for generations to come.
Along the way, we discovered a tiny hummingbird nest and even found a jack pine tree that we decided to transplant closer to the cabin. Did you know that jack pine cones need extreme heat, like from a fire, to release their seeds?
Thank you for joining us on this adventure. We did a lot of work, some planned and some not, but we had a blast. Stick around until the end of the video for a special bonus clip! See you next time!
