"Teresa Kelly E O Seu Órgão Electrónico" é um EP editado em 1969 que tem marca d'água feminista.
É possivelmente uma das primeiras gravações de um disco em Portugal por uma organista mulher, e é sempre bom relembrar a privação de direitos e poderes que as mulheres tinham antes do derrube da ditadura em Portugal. É por si só um marco.
Deixamos aqui a primeira canção deste EP, que é clara de onde vem, mas muito neblinosa para onde vai: é para se ficar preso sem saber por onde andar. Era o início do baile sem que ele ainda tivesse uma forma autêntica definida, um baile com contornos experimentais.
Calha partilharmos isto no dia 8 de Março, dia da Mulher: e desta forma queremos homenagear este pioneirismo e misticismo que são patentes neste registo discográfico.

«Foi precisamente na noite de Natal de 1955 que nasceu, na freguesia de Avelã, em Coimbra, Teresa Kelly. Não surpreende, por isso, viesse ao mundo tocada por uma sensibilidade — que diríamos quase divina — que a fez sobressair do número dos grandes organistas.
Também teve grande influência, na sua formação musical, o ambiente familiar onde não eram estranhos outros artistas. Tem agora os seus numerosos admiradores oportunidade de se deliciarem ouvindo Teresa kelly no seu primeiro disco comercial. Nós que a escutamos com enlevo, chamamos a vossa atenção para essa magnífica execução: “OH TEJO D’ONDE VENS?”, título que encabeça este disco. Ali estão bem patentes e numa perfeita fusão o seu virtuosismo e a influência recebida do grande mestre, Victorino Matono.
Acompanham Teresa Kelly nesta gravação uma gama de professores que a honraram com a sua presença e o seu saber.»
Sobre Teresa Kelly sabe-se também que gravou outro disco, numa onda mais dançável (synth-pop, dizem), pela Caravela Discos e que conta com a colaboração, imagine-se, do renomeado artista brasileiro Sivuca. Depois de mais algumas pesquisas, descobri que recentemente ainda tem tocado, agora no "Duo Tânia e Teresa", formado por Teresa Kelly e pela sua filha, e que geralmente toca em bailes populares.

“Teresa Kelly and Her Electronic Organ” is an EP released in 1969 that carries a feminist watermark.
It is possibly one of the first recordings in Portugal made by a female organist, and it is always good to remember the deprivation of rights and power that women experienced before the fall of the dictatorship in Portugal. For that reason alone, it is already a landmark.
We are sharing here the first song from this EP. It is clear where it comes from, but very misty about where it is going: it leaves you suspended, not knowing which direction to take. It was the beginning of the dance, before it had yet taken on a clearly defined authentic form.
It is fitting that we share this on March 8th, International Women’s Day. In this way we want to pay tribute to the pioneering spirit and mysticism that are evident in this recording.

“It was precisely on Christmas night in 1955 that Teresa Kelly was born, in the parish of Avelã, in Coimbra. It is therefore not surprising that she came into the world touched by a sensitivity—one we might even call almost divine—which made her stand out among the great organists.
Her musical development was also greatly influenced by the family environment in which she grew up, where other artists were not uncommon.
Her many admirers now have the opportunity to delight themselves by listening to Teresa Kelly on her first commercial record. Those of us who listen to her with admiration would like to draw your attention to this magnificent performance: “Oh Tejo, Where Do You Come From?”, the title that heads this record. In it one can clearly perceive, in perfect fusion, her virtuosity and the influence she received from the great master Victorino Matono.
A group of teachers also accompany Teresa Kelly on this recording, honoring it with their presence and knowledge.”
It is also known that Teresa Kelly recorded another record later on, with a more danceable style (synth-pop, some say), released by Caravela Discos and featuring the collaboration—imagine that—of the renowned Brazilian artist Sivuca.
After doing a bit more research, I discovered that she has performed more recently as well, now in the Duo Tânia e Teresa, formed by Teresa Kelly and her daughter, and that they usually play at local dance events.
