Here is a list of the beautiful places that you should definitely experience in Spiti Valley . Join us on Day 5 of Himachal & day 1 in Kaza Spiti . At Kaza , we put up in a Homestay which had all the facilities like bed - warmers , heaters to keep us warm & lovely local food . The only thing you will miss here is water & understand it's importance for sure . Due to extreme cold , all the pipes are sealed & hence locals get very limited fresh water from the Spiti river nearby . Overnight that gets frozen too . Our driver used to power on his vehicle every 2 hours so that engine doesn't freeze. The roads are covered with snow on all the sides & becomes extremely risky to drive . We recommend to travel with a good experienced driver always .
We enroute to the world's highest petrol & diesel Station in Kaza , located 3,000 m above the sea level . After the fuel tank was full , we moved towards the next tourist spot - Chicham Bridge , located at a height of 13,500 ft . It is also famous for lovely movie shots . It connects two villages Chicham & Kibber . It is also the World's Highest Suspension Bridge . Time for the next spot - the most famous Kee Monastery . Spiti Vlog is incomplete without visiting this beautiful , old & the largest Monastery in the valley . It was built in the 11th century .
Note : Photography is strictly prohibited inside the Monastery . We did trek the mountain to have a close look from above 13,000 ft. Be mindful of trekking . The oxygen level drops & the air gets thinner as we claim higher & higher . We recommend carrying warm water , chocolates & camphor potli to help breathing . After an amazing trek , we had some yummy Chinese food . Late afternoon , we moved towards Kaza Market & enjoyed some local shopping . The next day early in the morning , we left for Langza . On the way we were lucky to capture SNOW LEOPARD . This is a lifetime experience for us . Langza is famous for the tallest Buddha statue . The villagers here believe it protects them from evil spirits . What a peaceful & spectacular experience !
Next up , we travelled through the highest motorable roads in Kibber village & enjoyed more snow covered mountains .
Our next destination is the world's highest post office - Hikkim PO . We couldn't stop ourselves from sending postcards to our loved ones . It cost us around 20/- to 30/- for each postcard . It is amazing how an old man gathers the post daily from here & takes it to Kaza . One difficult journey . That's how people earn their livelihood .
Last but not the least , we visited Gue Monastery - The Mummy . Yes , it is famous for the Mummy of a monk preserved here for centuries . We were shocked as we could see the nails , the teeth & hair in natural condition . The localities offer prayers & food here to the Mummy . There is a minimal entry fee to Gue Monastery . Another interesting thing to notice here is - Time settings literally change only for all the iPhone users on their own . Yes no ghost activity - it is because it is located very close to the Tibet / China border .
