With John Wick seemingly out of the picture (at least for now), it’s up to Ana de Armas’s Eve Macarro to fill the void. Trained from a young age as a Kikimora assassin by the Ruska Roma, as seen in ‘John Wick: Chapter 3’, Eve is now assigned various contracts. A chance encounter with a member of the Cult though opens old wounds, putting her on a dangerous path of revenge.

The action in Ballerina is as you’d expect in the John Wick Universe, with gruelling, gut-busting hand-to-hand combat, and an interesting mix of weaponry, including ice skates and a flamethrower. It certainly looks just as good as other entries, with Ana de Armas proving herself to be a worthy addition to the franchise as the underestimated Eve.

Where the film struggles is in its convoluted storytelling. John Wick’s early outings in particular were fairly simplistic and linear. Ballerina’s plot jumps from the past to semi-present, all whilst attempting to link in John Wick’s Chapter 3 storyline, with Keanu Reeves providing a small cameo to sure things up. Despite its fairly formulaic story beats, it’s still a relatively fun time, largely thanks to its action set pieces.
