Soul and Wisdom: The Life of Ferdowsi

Soul and Wisdom: The Life of Ferdowsi© is a short animated biopic about 10th century poet Abolqasem Ferdowsi Tusi, often abbreviated to Ferdowsi. The film was completed roughly a year and half after its idea was conceived. It combines 3D animation and 2D motion comics to tell its story. I (Rostam) also accompany the film as a periodic live narrator, providing insights into Ferdowsi’s life against the backdrop of traditional pardeh khani.

Born in 940 CE, Ferdowsi would go on to write the Shahnameh, an epic poem portraying the kings and champions of Iran from as early as the mythical past until the end of the Sasanian dynasty in the 7th century.

Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh took almost 35 years to complete and is still regarded as one of the best and most inspiring works of epic poetry in the world. It has become a literary staple in the Middle East, Central Asia, and South Asia.

This film seeks to unravel Ferdowsi’s struggles and life on the screen.
