Today I wanted to dive back into the topic of mortgages because recent law changes in the mortgage industry are having far-reaching effects. The Dodd-Frank Act changed a lot of things about laws governing mortgage lending, and we've just begun to see those changes implemented this year. For instance, mortgage closing periods and appraisal windows have both been drawn out due to these changes. A mortgage used to be able to close in 20 to 30 days, but new, more strict guidelines mean that most home loans will take closer to 30 to 45 days to close. This means that it's now more important than ever for buyers to clear up any issues quickly in order to avoid delays.
