Guntupalli caces were carved earlier than ajantha and ellora caves.
Guntupalli is being called as Andhra Ajantha. Bouddha caves, Aaramas, Sthupas and Chaityas present on hill top of Guntupalli dates back to 3 rd century B.C to 3 rd century A.D. As there were no Buddha statues and decorative carvings in aaramas, it is understood that they belongs to heenayana period. One guhalayam is called as Dharmalingeswara swamy temple. Maha meghavahana siri sada inscription, kharavella inscription found here revealed the flourishing of Jainism in this place.
