(11 Nov 2013) LI YA PENG MAKES HIS FIRST APPEARANCE AFTER DIVA SPLIT
Li Ya Peng, ex-husband of Chinese pop diva Faye Wong, made his first appearance in Hong Kong after their divorce.
Li helped to celebrate the launch of a Chinese luxury watch brand in Hong Kong on Monday (11 November 2013). He was all smiles on stage during the ribbon cutting ceremony and the Dragon Dance (customary for store openings in China). After the ceremonies ended, Li skipped the press line and quickly left the event.
A former actor-turned-philanthropist and businessman, Li was married to Wong for 8 years. Together, the couple has two daughters, the elder from Wong's previous marriage, and a younger daughter, Li Yan, born in 2006. Li Yan was born with a cleft palate, and had surgery to correct it. Inspired by their own daughter's journey, Li and Wong founded the "Smile Angel Foundation", aimed to help other children with similar condition.
They shocked fans in September when they announced on their weibo (blog) that they are getting a divorce. While rumors swirled on the reasons for the divorce, Wong took to her weibo page again to clarify that there was no third party involved nor was financial problem cause of the divorce. She insisted that it was a personal decision and they parted on good terms. Li received custody of Li Yan.
While Li did not want to speak to the press on Monday, his good friend, actress Huang Yi said that he is "in a good place" and "doesn't need any counseling" after the divorce.
Huang, the spokesperson of the luxury watch brand, shinned in a gold, glittery dress at the event. She said although she loves bling on watches, the mommy side of her loves a particular design which reminds her of her baby daughter.
"They have a design where you can put a picture of your baby inside the watch and it's secured by colored enamel. You can commemorate the birth," she explained.
Huang gave birth in January this year in the US to a baby girl. After several months off, she returned to work this summer and has been working non stop on projects like "Overheard 3," directed by the the award winning Hong Kong director duo Felix Chong and Alan Mak.
