Gypsies was formed in 1969 by Anton Perera, father of five sons Sunil, Nihal, Piyal, Nimal, and Lal. They converted part of their house in Ratmalana to a Recording Studio and began making music. Gypsies have continued to perform as a band for over thirty years and band members have changed over time due to migration, other professions etc. Brothers Sunil and Piyal from the original line up are still continuing to perform with the band who has eight members today. Gypsies are a highly recognised and paid band in Sri Lanka.


Dunnay Kiss Ekai is one of their many popular hits from the 70s.
