In April 2024, deputies in Flagler County, Florida stopped a silver Chrysler sedan for speeding in a 20 mph school zone. Behind the wheel was a 17-year-old missing from Wisconsin, with 18-year-old Katie Stevens in the passenger seat.

At first, the teen received only a written warning. But just hours later, deputies learned the vehicle was stolen out of Wisconsin, and the driver was listed as a missing person. Using real-time data, deputies tracked the Chrysler to a Palm Coast gas station and conducted a high-risk felony stop. Both the teen driver and Stevens were taken into custody.

Authorities say the teen stole his father’s vehicle after being forbidden to drive it, and fled Wisconsin on an impulsive road trip south. The incident ended with felony charges, a stolen car recovered, and both suspects under arrest.
