There is a brief backstory to the Richard Petty family, Kyle Petty, and what Adam planned for the next season, and why he raced in the ASA series before moving into Busch and Nascar Cup Racing. Regrettably, Adam died due to a crash in New Hampshire that same year. After Adam, Kenny Irwin, and Dale Earnhardt died from similar injuries, head and neck safety devices became mandatory.
