Welcome back everybody for the FINAL update video in the Centennial Corridor series documenting the progress of this transformational highway construction project here in Bakersfield California.

This is part 31 in the series and this video was take on Sunday, February 18th 2024.

I am Dylan Conner with The Heightened Perspective, and I am happy to announce to you all that the roadway has now been opened and traffic is flowing freely along the Centennial Corridor connecting the westside parkway to the highway 99 and highway 58 interchange.

This series has been 5 years in the making, and the project taking even longer than that.

I know you are all very excited to finally have this path opened up as we are now able to consider these faster routes as we navigate our way through and around Bakersfield.

As we look upward here toward the north, we can see the La Mirada and Marella Way overpasses, and further ahead as the corridor crosses over California Avenue and ultimately connects with the Westside Parkway at Truxtun Avenue.

It has been an amazing experience to observe this project as it has developed, crossing through the neighborhoods where each of my parents grew up and also where my daughter used to go to preschool at the old Little Red School House on California, which of course is no longer there.

I guess sometimes as some histories may fade….new futures are born.

As we look ahead here toward the interchange of the highways 99 and 58, I would like to point out that while the eastbound and westbound 58 lanes are open and flowing smoothly, and merge lanes connecting to the 99 southbound and Ming Avenue are open for travel, the high bridge connecting the 99 north to the 58 west to the corridor are not yet open, and there is also still some work going on along the east side of highway 99 at wible road where another onramp to 99 seems to be going in.

As we span around and take one more look at the interchange, we see highway 99 northbound to the left, and southbound to the right, and looking up toward the east at highway 58…..

I’d like to just take this last opportunity to thank everyone who worked on this project to bring this vision into reality, it has been absolutely spectacular. I would also like to thank each and every one of you who have followed along with my vidoes of the project over the last 5 years. It has been a pleasure and an honor capturing this piece of Bakersfield’s history in the making and sharing it with all of you. I hope future generations will have a chance to observe it as well and enjoy watching it as much as I have enjoyed documenting it.
