Mayank Saxena, a ploymath, a journalist, film-writer, musician, lyricist, activist, breathed his last breath on 7th June, 2024 in Delhi.
He passed away at the age of 39 due to a sudden cardiac arrest while waiting in the Hospital.
In his brief condense life, Mayank touched many lives and left a great legacy of work. His several interviews and videos on political issues, coverage of several movements including the farmers movement, CAA-NRC, and extensive political coverage during elections, coupled with poems, writings, revolutionary songs, makes it almost impossible to sum up his work and influence. He was known to question – everyone and everything, almost following the Socratic tradition of not bowing down to the powers to be and to always be in the pursuit of truth.
Mayank hails from Lucknow, and divided majority of his time between Delhi and Mumbai. He had also extensively travelled across India for his reporting, most recently in Banaras during the Lok Sabha Elections, 2024 ( • Exclusive - वाराणसी के घाट से, गरीब फेरीवा... )
On 7th July, 2024, his friends, colleagues, seniors met to remember him and share their fondest memories of him. His brilliance, incomparable memory, command over English, Hindu and Urdu, and a beating heart full of compassion, makes Mayank stand out for deep living in a world full of superficial lives. In this video, people who saw him closely recollect many anecdotes that bring out the character sketch of Mayank Saxena. Here is the full video of the gathering.
In the nineteenth century, the poet Matthew Arnold had written :
“And we forget because we must;
And not because we will.”
As we continue with our lives, the fight that Mayank fought will continue on. In the words
of Faiz Ahmed Faiz - Hum Dekhenge! हम देखेंगे!
