In the middle of the Clone Wars, Maul brought together various factions, including Death Watch, Black Sun, the Pyke Syndicate, and the Hutt Clans. Once they had taken over Mandalore, Pre Vizsla, the leader of Death Watch, betrayed Maul. Even though the renegade Sith defeated Vizsla in combat, the damage was done. The Hutts withdrew their support, and the Pykes and Black Sun severed ties after their conflicts with the Separatists, though they eventually rejoined. In the closing days of the Clone Wars, Maul ordered the Shadow Collective leaders to go into hiding. And after surviving the Siege of Mandalore, Maul went into hiding on Dathomir. He took control of the up and coming crime syndicate Crimson Dawn, with Dryden Vos acting as the public face of the organization.
