In putting this presentation together, I have tried to draw a parallel between Phil’s visual art and particularly his electronic music, through his use of colour, tone, and texture.
Phil would always cite Jimi Hendrix and his exploration of sonics through feedback as a seminal and fundamental influence. Hendrix inspired Phil’s lifelong exploration of the nature of sound.
A similar fascination with light is evident in his drawings.
I thought that many would not have been acquainted with Phil’s art outside of the classical guitar and that this would introduce people to another side of Phil’s creativity."

Paul Fowles tribute

To follow on from what Paul Fowles said about Phil and his ‘creative process’, I recall Phillip stating emphatically “I don’t have one” !! Each composition is a “world”, its own unique entity. “I’m feel like I’m commuting with some kind of energy, an energy that’s internal, ancient and very NOW. It’s like the heartbeat of humanity. I commute with it and write its song. That’s all.”
