On 14 August 2025, the Greenstat Centre of Excellence in Hydrogen (COE-H) hosted an exclusive webinar with Professor Sir Jim Skea, Chair of the IPCC, exploring the latest science on climate change and what lies ahead.

Professor Skea highlighted that to keep global warming below 1.5°C, global emissions should have been halved during the 2020s — a milestone we have missed. This makes 1.5°C nearly out of reach, and even holding warming under 2°C will demand unprecedented action in the coming decade. The key message is urgent yet clear: every fraction of a degree matters. Beyond 2°C, the world risks irreversible damage to coral reefs, forests, food systems, and future generations.

In this session, Professor Skea unpacked the findings of the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report, reflected on their implications for the Paris Agreement goals, and outlined priorities for the Seventh Assessment Cycle, including critical knowledge gaps and global research collaborations.
