When you are getting on Medicare or turning 65 and getting on Medicare it can be hard for some people to justify whether they should take Medicare Part D or not. In this video I explain the reasons why you should take part D in most cases where you don't have other prescription drug insurance. The first reason you should have the Medicare Part D plan is because if you don't take it when you are first eligible then you will be penalized later when you do need the plan and enroll. That Medicare Part D penalty is a monthly penalty added to the premium of the part D plan you choose and lasts the rest of your life. The second reason you should take the Part D plan is that you never know when you may need it. You could end up on some very high cost medications out of the blue and you may not have any way to pay for them if you don't have Medicare Part D.
