What kind of church is God calling us to be? More importantly, what kind of people is He calling us to be?

In 1 Thessalonians 1, Paul points to a church that got it right. Not because they were flashy or perfect, but because the gospel didn’t stop at words. It came with power, the Holy Spirit, and deep conviction. Their faith was lived, not just spoken.

First, they were a Gospel people. Jesus was their focus and His mission was their mission. The gospel is good news because it meets us in broken places. Jesus came to seek and save the lost, and that calling now belongs to us. Faith that stays private eventually fades. Faith that’s shared grows stronger.

Second, they were a Word-shaped people. They didn’t treat Scripture like a suggestion or a reference book. God’s Word was alive and active in their lives. Submitting to Scripture isn’t always easy, but it’s how we build a steady foundation in an unsteady world. When the Word shapes our thinking, it reshapes our living.

Finally, they were a Spirit-empowered people. They didn’t just talk about God, they experienced Him. Real transformation doesn’t come from persuasion alone. It comes from encounters with the Holy Spirit. No one can argue you out of what God has done in you.

The danger is focusing on only one of these. Gospel without the Word leads to compromise. Word without power becomes cold. Power without the gospel loses direction. Jesus holds all three together, and when He’s at the center, faith becomes whole.

So today, ask yourself:
Do I need boldness to share the gospel?
Do I need to return to God’s Word with humility?
Do I need to ask for more of God’s presence in my life?

The same Spirit who worked in Thessalonica is at work today. Invite Him to shape you fully.
