"109 vs Spitfire" Compilation (How to Kill Spitfires)

A lot of people seem to have trouble fighting Spitfires in RB. The 109 however, is surprisingly effective at countering Spitfires in aggressive energy-fighting maneuvers.

To make it simple:

1. Make sure there is a SIGNIFICANT difference in energy at the beginning of the engagement. (Either you or the enemy has over 1km alt or 100kmh speed advantage, we will discuss countering the latter case.)

2. Utilize Takeoff and Landing flaps (flap controls can be altered in menu) to maximize turning ability. Instead of a flat horizontal fight, utilize high/low yo-yos, where the 109 excels.

3. If the Spitfire is above/behind and diving, use both rudder and ailerons to out-roll and force an overshoot. (All aircraft in-game can roll significantly faster in this fashion.) Reduce throttle if necessary (usually is). Make sure you are always at an extreme angle from his POV, flying sideways to him or upside-down to deny him a clear shot.

4. Once an overshoot is imminent, maximize throttle and flaps to capitalize on the split-second opening.

5. IF the Spitfire enters a tight turn (vertically or horizontally) that you cannot follow, dive to disengage, make another energy gap, and try again.

This tactic can be applied to ALL energy fighters which can out-energy but not outturn the Spitfire.
