Join me in my back yard for Part Three, on day two of conditioning the straw bales. It's about a two week process, involving water and fertilizer, and in this video I'm on the second day. Follow along and learn with me as I start this straw bale garden.
In this video I've already positioned my bales, and am watering them for the second day. I've left the plants on top of the bales to test out the sunlight exposure on them, and will start blood meal fertilizer in a couple days. You also see my dog, Bo, at the end, who is clearly a water dog. :)
I learned about straw-bale gardening from a facebook group, and started to do research on how to get started on this DIY gardening project. I know a couple other folks who are starting their first Straw Bale garden too, and if you are interested in trying it or learning about it, please join me! I've always aspired to garden/landscape in a way that I call "lazy gardening" where I can hopefully plant things that are self-sustaining, or that will grown back year-to-year so I can add to it every year, and grow plants that naturally thrive in my hot, sandy, South Carolina yard. I haven't tried permaculture gardening, but I think it is along these same lines.
