The legend of Aphrodite is a favorite among the children on the island of Kythera. The ancient greek goddess was born from the sparking sea foam near its shores, and Kythera Town was the first village to welcome her. You can feel her presence among the intoxicating scent of floating blossoms and the songs of poet's who chant her story. Even the banners of the island feature her symbol, the dove.

Her son Aineias is said to have journeyed here long ago after fleeing Troy. Upon arrival, he established a sanctuary to his divine mother. Pilgrims have been visiting ever since. Let us join them as we stroll about the city on a crisp spring morning, ending our promenade at the same shrine Aineias built so very long ago.
