Neem Karoli Baba and Dr Mungali

Since 1945 ever since Maharajji set foot in Nainital, my family has been graced with Maharajji’s presence. He would visit our house like any Family member. When I was born my body showed no vital sign of life, I neither cried nor passed urine, and the family was in deep distress.
Unexpectedly, Maharaj arrived at our home. As always, he went and sat on his Takhat and the family became engaged in attending to him. Maharaj immediately said “Bring the child to me,” to which the family did not respond immediately. Maharaj repeated himself, and the third time sternly asked for the new born to be given to him. My aunt brought me, wrapped in a blanket, and placed me at his feet. Near him there a brazier kept on the floor. No sooner did Maharaj place his right toe in my mouth than I started sucking on it and Maharaj then picked me up and placed me on his lap. They say he stroked my head and said “Nimmi is my son. He will become a Doctor and serve." and immediately I passed out urine which fell upon the wood burning brazier and a cloud of ashes smeared upon me and I gave out a loud cry. The shrill of my cry filled the house with joy. My birth, my name, his love, my work and my purpose in life was all given to me by him. Over time my name, given by him, “Nimmi” became Nirmal as I went to school, and later Dr. Nirmal Chandra Mungali. At his behest I have practiced medicine for the past 43 years. During his lifetime I have been a witness to myriads of leelas of Maharaaji, and myriads unfold even to this day. I have witnessed many patients recover from incurable ailments through his Leela. It is said joy multiplies when shared. So I am inspired to share the stories and joy of his grace with all his devotees.
