The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor) has refuted reports of supplying substandard fuel to Botswana and local markets.

The company stated that claims published in a local newspaper are incorrect and malicious.

The daily alleged that some of Namcor’s oil was sold on to Botswana Oil which raised the alarm that the oil quality was substandard.


In a media statement, with a display of a certificate of quality check, Namcor highlighted that the product underwent routine pre-discharge quality checks, which it passed.

The national oil company said it cannot assume responsibility for the handling, storage, or use of the product once it leaves its storage facilities, after which it is no longer under its custody and control.

Therefore, it cannot account for downstream handling, storage conditions, blending, or equipment beyond its control.

Before fuel discharge from Zahra, Namcor stated it had already received independent quality certification for the product on board, confirming compliance with all applicable industry standards and specifications.

From this batch, approximately 27 million liters were moved across the country.

The incident occurred between 05 and 07 January 2026.

Namcor insisted that the same client continued to uplift product from after this period.

The corporation assured the public, customers, and partners that its fuel products meet prescribed specifications and will continue to uphold best industry practices across all its operations.
