President Rodrigo Roa Duterte met with the army officials and troops of the 7th Infantry Division in Fort Ramon Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija.

In his statement, the President explained the government’s decision on the unilateral ceasefire with the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), National Democratic Front (NDF), and New People’s Army (NPA), saying that it was not his decision alone, but rather, the decision of his Cabinet.

He emphasized that as President, he seeks peace with everyone and it is his job to ensure peace in the country, while the army’s duty is to guard the integrity of the Philippine republic and protect its people.

President Duterte also promised an incremental increase in the military pay starting August and the hiring of additional troops.
