At Backlash 2001, Taker and Kane put their World Tag Titles on the line against Triple H’s Intercontinental Title and Steve Austin’s WWE Title. With Taker fighting Austin, Kane went for a chokeslam on Triple H but hit Stephanie McMahon with a big boot instead. Kane caught Vince and Triple H hit him with the sledgehammer to leave with all the titles. In July 2001, Taker faced Albert for the Intercontinental Title, where DDP hit Taker with a chair, ending in a DQ. In November 2001, Taker faced Kurt Angle for the WCW US Title. Taker went for the last ride, Angle countered him and caught him with the Ankle Lock. Taker managed to counter him and caught him with the Ankle Lock. But Austin came out and attacked Taker, ending in a DQ. A week later, Taker faced Rob Van Dam for the Hardcore Title. Booker T attacked Taker, Taker hit him with a superplex and RVD hit him with the Five Star Frog Splash to retain the title. They had a rematch a month later at Vengeance. Taker threw RVD off the stage with a chokeslam to win the title.
