Session #24 - Anxiety in School-Age Children - Dr. Jac den Houting - Autism Explained Online Summit 2019 (Day 5 - Friday 18th of October)

SESSION OVERVIEW:
Dr Jac den Houting is a research psychologist with 10 years experience currently working with Professor Liz Pellicano at Macquarie University in Sydney. Jac was identified as Autistic at the age of 25, is proudly neurodivergent and queer, and is a strong advocate for the Autistic community, with high level involvement in several groups such as ASAN - the Autistic Self Advocacy Network of Australia and New Zealand.

In this session we learn about Dr Houting's work and discuss topics such as:
-The Prevalence of Anxiety within the Autistic Community
-The Presentation and Symptoms and of Anxiety in Autistic Children
-Typical Signs Anxiety vs A-Typical Signs of Anxiety
-The Gap Between How Children Rated Their Anxiety vs How Parents Rated Their Child's Anxiety During Dr. Houting's Studies
-Unexpected Findings on Academic Performance in Relation to Anxiety in Autistic Children

Shannan is a single parent and carer of an amazing 9 year old boy on the Autism Spectrum. She is an ex-corporate trainer with a BA, currently studying a Masters in autism studies with Griffith University.
