Rolling back a century, we stopped in Neillsville, Wisconsin to film the city’s 1919 J.I. Case steam traction engine—now parked just inside the gate at Schuster Park. Yep, it’s a traction engine (farm/industrial workhorse), not a railroad locomotive—but this iron giant still oozes “locomotion.” Built by Case of Racine, these rigs threshed grain, hauled lumber, and powered belt-driven machinery that kept small-town industry humming. Local history notes this very engine worked the countryside for threshing, later spending decades powering a sawmill on Neillsville’s north side before its retirement to public display. Today, it’s a photogenic relic of Wisconsin’s farm and logging past—and a perfect quick-stop feature for my channel, Wisconsin Points of Interest.
