Lovingly dubbed "SPOF", after its original script title (stupid piece of f-word), The Light We Seek is about a combination of internal crises I've had in the past few months. The light I looked for (my character's name is 1) was dark, ominous, and clearly red, and as I went through my day-to-day trying to find my real self and the connection through others I so clearly wanted, I went deeper and deeper into this pit of despair. The light one seeks isn't always one backed by warmth, but the light always brings truth. In SPOF I not only find the courage to dive into this darkness and show some of it to the world, I mock it too- what else is there to do? I'm a dramatic emotional emo kid and I play on that with touches of irony throughout as well.

I can provide insight on the exact metaphor or hidden meaning behind every clip (as the story is non-linear and experimental, the clips don't necessarily attach to each other in a regular way), and if you so wish, comment on something specific! But I can't fool myself and say this is the most complex piece of media on the internet. I'm sure everyone gets it at least somewhat, and if you know me personally, you might be able to guess just what exactly this is all about in the first place. And maybe you connect with it too.

SPOF is my first attempt at a non-linear, dark minset piece with limited interaction and dialogue, with much to interpret in the montage and visuals. I call it experimental but who knows if it actually is that. I couldn't have done it without my great friends Kiki, Logan, Morgan, and Melayna, and without the support of everyone I know cheering me on and helping me continue wanting to pursue film. I think this is the last personal independent project I finish in CEGEP. It's a bit sentimental.
