Closing Time at The Magna Carta | Micro Four Thirds Photography Competition Entry

In this video I share the story behind my image “Closing Time at the Magna Carta” — a night street photograph taken outside the Magna Carta pub in Lincoln and submitted to my photography club’s February monthly competition.

Although I could have entered any image taken in the past 12 months, I decided to create something new specifically for this challenge. I headed back out with my Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II and 25mm f/1.8 lens to recreate the scene I captured two weeks earlier — people gathering outside, calling it a night, with warm light spilling onto the cobbled street.

• f/1.8
• ISO 1600
• Micro Four Thirds system

In the video, I explain why sharpness matters in club competitions and why I believe horizontal (landscape) compositions often perform well in judging. More importantly, I talk about storytelling in photography — and how including people in your frame can instantly elevate an image from a simple architectural shot to a narrative moment.

This image isn’t just about a pub — it’s about atmosphere, timing, and capturing that fleeting “closing time” feeling.
