Any journey or learning process starts from the basics and surely knowing how to make a RICH sugar syrup is one of the first step than #homebartender should be aware of.

Easy as it is to make it, it's very important that we understand the difference between RICH and SIMPLE; with R being a ratio 2 sugar to 1 water, while the S a ratio of 1 sugar to 1 water. It's also important to never use boiling water but warm so not to "burn" the flavour of the sugar itself (if you have any machines like Thermomix I actually advice to use cold water and blend it for 2 mins at high speed) and use filtered water for a better quality of the syrup.
