When you write a task for any of the Cambridge main suite of exams, you must always consider who the Target Reader is for your writing.

So who is this mysterious Target Reader?

In this video I'll explore the idea of the Target Reader - the 'ideal' person who will read your writing.

To summarise the main points:

For essays, the Target Reader is a teacher.
For informal letters, it's your friend.
For formal letters, it would be a superior, like your boss.
For reviews, it's somebody who wants to decide whether or not to read the book you're reviewing (for example).
For articles, it's somebody seeking information and entertainment.
For stories, it's somebody who wants to be entertained by an interesting tale.
And for reports and proposals, the Target Reader is a superior who will make a decision based on what you write.

There's slightly more to it than that, of course, but the key point is that when you write, you need to keep the Target Reader in mind if you want to score highly.
