Aloha, my name is Donna Fisher. I am a veteran English teacher who has taught grades 6th-12th for almost two decades. I have six years teaching experience with grades 7-12 where I taught using an Abeka (rigorous) curriculum in a private school, and over a decade teaching middle school in public schools. Therefore, I have extensive experience creating and using these raps to teach my students complex English Language Arts concepts with ease. Subject Verb Agreement
🎵Subject, PN, There/Here, Titles, Collective Nouns

1. Single subjects take single verbs.
Plural subjects take plural verbs.
2. The number is not usually affected by a phrase in between;
Like the stack of dishes needs to be cleaned.
3. When it comes to the predicate nominative,
The subject agrees with the verb;
Like roses are a nice gesture.
4. To find the subject in a question flip the order to be clear,
5. And flip the order in a sentence beginning with “there or here”.
What is the year you began your career?
There is a fly in my ear.
There are mosquitoes everywhere.
Here is the megaphone so you can cheer.
Here are the movies you asked for, dear.
6. For art, literature, organizations, cities,
Or countries, remember this,
Their titles are not usually plural even if they end in an “S”.
Gulliver’s Travels, by Jonathan Swift is on the test.
Between the two groups, Girl Scouts is the best.
7. Collective nouns name a group and are singular in form.
Collective nouns are words; like,
Family, platoon, herd and swarm,
8. But if the collective noun is not acting as one unit,
A plural collective noun is what you get.
Like the student body are voting among themselves
Who should be selected president.
9. Collective nouns are also plural
If there is more than one collective noun.
The platoons are assembling forces on the ground.
