A year-long Bloomberg News investigation has uncovered how Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, built a sprawling global property and investment empire stretching from London to Dubai, Frankfurt and beyond.

According to intelligence assessments and people familiar with the matter, Mojtaba Khamenei has been directly involved in overseas deals while keeping assets out of his own name. Instead, a complex web of shell companies and trusted intermediaries was used to route billions of dollars into Western markets, despite US sanctions imposed on him in 2019.
The investigation traces funds largely originating from Iranian oil sales into luxury British homes, European hotels and Gulf real estate. Iranian businessman Ali Ansari is identified as a central figure in managing and facilitating these transactions.
The revelations come as Iran grapples with rising inflation, economic hardship and deadly protests against the Islamic regime, exposing a stark contrast between the ruling elite’s hidden wealth and the struggles of ordinary Iranians.
