I used to use a pair of squeeze clamps to hold the Quench plates closed but the arbor press is quicker and applies a bit more pressure.
The results are a very flat blade and a speeded up procedure with less fuss.
I doubt whether a bigger press would give any better results but it would be nice to have:)
