Sophia Amimo, a name quite familiar to those who have worked in the gulf, is our guest today.
Sophia has worked in 4 gulf countries: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Dubai and Bahrain.
Each country has a story:
1. In Saudi Arabia, Sophia and her co-worker escaped rape, after being driven into a desert by three men who belonged to her employer's Arabic family. In her defense, she threatened to pull out the male driver's manhood if he never drove them back to the house.
2. In Qatar, she worked in 6 houses in a period of 3 months
3. In Dubai, she hustled for 4 months without a job and when she eventually landed on one, Covid19 pandemic spoiled her good pay.
4. Bahrain was good, but the salary was little compared to other countries.
Due to her experience in the four countries and having come back to Kenya with very little in her hands, she has started an organization for returnees, since a number of them come back to the country either: mentally disturbed, low on finances, broken families, death of loved ones, high expectations by society etc.
This will give them an umbrella to share their experiences and forge a way forward.
