This is the 4th swarm my brother Antonio and I have caught this season! We're expecting at least another 8. We're excited that our apiary is growing and we're learning so much. This is our first official year as beekeepers.

We don't strictly follow any schools of thought when it comes to beekeeping. We adjust our practices when something isn't working to provide the best environment for our bees. Our goal is to allow them to thrive on their own with little or no intervention. We are trying our best to use the combined knowledge of science & research and tradition & ancestral knowledge.

This swarm started to form around 1pm. It took about 40minutes for it to come out completely and then another 20minutes for it to settle into the spot it found on the tree. We cleared the area of branches to make it easier to shake them into the box. We then let them settle into the new box for a few minutes before we close the box and move them into their new permanent location.
