Butterfly-weed (Asclepias tuberosa) Profile

Описание к видео Butterfly-weed (Asclepias tuberosa) Profile

Butterfly-weed is one of my favorite native plants. A member of the milkweed family - it is found naturally throughout much of North America where it prefers prairie and sand barren type habitats but will grow well in any free draining, non-saturated soil.

It bears clusters of bright orange flowers atop numerous upright stems that carry encircling dark green lanceolate leaves. It is tough and can withstand droughty soils. It is also very attractive to a wide variety of insects such as bees, wasps and butterflies (eg. Monarchs, Swallowtails, skippers etc) .

It is a hardy perennial that can survive in Zones 3-7.
