Описание к видео Me Too - Rudi Smit, Film & TV, CITYVARSITY

Nineteen (19) year old Dylan Pereira, co-director and filmmaker of the viral ME TOO video choreographed by Rudi Smit, is currently studying Film and Television Production Techniques at CityVarsity Cape Town. This year, he has been shooting for various videos and this latest one has certainly gained him unexpected exposure. We chatted to him about this experience and about studying a Diploma in Film at CV.

Who is Dylan Pereira?

DP is a 19YO film-maker from SA. I used to be a dancer that’s why I am so into the dance community. I started studying at CV in 2015.

I am almost done with my 2nd year diploma.

What encouraged you to study film?

I’ve always liked cameras, always interested from the time I was a kid in capturing moments…I remember walking around with those old phones with those really bad cameras. So I thought why not try and make it into a career because I really enjoyed it. I was passionate about it.

Why CV?

I heard good things about CV so decided to check it out.

What inspires you?

I guess seeing famous dancers and famous film-makers from overseas really inspires me because I am so into my dancing, there is a big market for dancing videos overseas because there are so many dancers overseas ie LA; NZ; Canada. I am constantly watching dancing videos from around the world and seeing how they are put together and seeing how passionate these people are makes me want to be better at what I do.

How has CV helped you to transform that passion into a profession?

Being around all the equipment and a few people in my class…eg Jason Prince (one of my good friends) we learn a lot together, we always go and film stuff together – we teach and learn from eachother.

Who has had the biggest influence in your life?

Myself – I like to sit down and judge my work – I always look at how I can improve. The more I critique myself the more confident I get. Seeing my work and seeing how I’ve grown in the past few years is definitely a big inspiration for me.

What would you tell your 20 year-old self?

Don’t get a big head.

What do you do for fun?

I dance for fun. I always have my earphones on dancing around campus. And filming dancing makes me so happy.

How does it feel to be an overnight internet sensation?

I still don’t believe it, when I see the views…I still don’t believe it. Its been a week and a half since it went out and I sit back and I think that this is just crazy, how did this happen? Obviously, I’ve gotten a lot more emails and messages from people asking for work, complimenting my work which never really used to happen. Its so nice to get the recognition.

How did you meet Rudi Smit?

Through dance. He knew I was good at filming so he asked me to film some stuff of his and the rest is history.

What do you hope to get involved with now?

I have my own company going - Dylan Pereira Productions. Its small and I would like to further it. At this point I don’t really know, I’m the type of person who just goes with the flow – but I would like to end up overseas – there is just so many opportunities – so many cool dancers – I would love to be in LA, massive market for film-makers there and so much talent there. I would also love to come back and work here in SA, cause its where I’m from.

What excites you about the future of our industry here in SA?

I love how the industry is constantly growing, its just moving at such a fast rate.

Any advice to prospective learners that want to get involved in the industry?

Work hard. You won't get anywhere if you don’t work to your full potential. The more you film, the more you get better at it. Stay humble.
