This discussion is relevant to ANY ballistic drop compensating (BDC) reticle out there. The atmosphere (ATM) is continuously changing throughout the day and season as is your temperature increase muzzle velocity variation (MVV). Everyone lives a their own altitude and ammunition muzzle velocity (MV) continuously varies from brand to brand and lot to lot. The procedure for TRUING your BDC is universal and must be applied for best results no matter where you are or what you do. INSTRUCTIONS ~ Field Procedure:

1) Establish a basic standard zero at a distance of your choice. Examples: 25 meters, 36 yds, 50yds, 100 yds, etc...

2) Set up a target at a medium or long range distance which is marked in your BDC reticle. Example: 600 yards, 800 yards, etc...

3) Engage the target using the appropriate BDC mark (ex: 600 or 800 yds mark), adjusting your turret dials until your reticle is right on.

4). Once you BDC is on at that medium or long range distance, slip your turret scales to "0" and you are TRUED at that distance for STD/ATM/MET and with your unique table of equipment.

INSTRUCTIONS ~ Using a Chronograph and Ballistic Computer:

1) Capture your actual velocities with a chronograph.

2) Establish a basic standard zero at a distance of your choice. Examples: 25 meters, 36 yds, 50yds, 100 yds, etc...

3) Work out your ballistics in a ballistic computer program using your measured velocities with all the appropriate ballistic inputs, compare those produced values at distance to the drop values associated with your BDC marks, subtract the difference from the scales and GO.

4). TRUE the reticle at range. Even if you do it the above way, you will need to TRUE your BDC at the first opportunity via a livefire range. For more, join us to learn the science of internal and external ballistics in the RX Classroom on Patreon.   / tiborasaurusrex
