Hear the story of “Different” with Mimi Savage as she tells how, in one night, she discovers the disabling shame which leads to self-acceptance and pride in her racial identity.


Storyteller's Bio:

Mimi Savage, PhD, is a registered drama therapist whose research focuses on self-identity with adopted youth from foster care. An educator at UCLArts and Healing's SEA program, Dr. Savage is a graduate of Princeton and the Neighborhood Playhouse School. She recently completed work as a drama therapist for a film on skid row called Game Girls. Previously developing programs for in-patient psychiatric units, she now has a private practice, Studio for Expressive Arts LA (SFEALA.com). Mimi is the SoCal North American Drama Therapy Association (NADTA) chapter president and is on the NADTA national board. She lives with her three children, husband, and an English foxhound.

This monthly night of stories features 10 storytellers and live musicians who make stories into music. Eight storytellers are invited and pre-booked, but there will be two open slots at each event for audience members to put their names into a hat for selection at the door to be Guest Storytellers.
