For decades, Norfolk County has been a destination for immigrants from around the world. A new video aimed at luring more newcomers provides a fresh welcome mat for the municipality.

Since 2009, 536 immigrants have left other countries and chosen Norfolk County to be their home. In an area where out-migration is rising, these newcomers are helping to sustain the population.

Titled “Welcome to Norfolk”, the video celebrates newcomers from all corners of the County, sharing their thoughts about why this is a great place to live. The video can be viewed on Norfolk County websites (norfolkcounty.ca; norfolkbusiness.ca).

“Norfolk County is Ontario’s Garden, so we hope that newcomers will decide to grow their dreams here,” said Clark Hoskin, Manager of Tourism and Economic Development for Norfolk County. “Our residents are very welcoming and hospitable – and we need to take extra care and patience with newcomers to Norfolk County.”

“Norfolk County has embraced newcomers – as neighbours, business owners, entrepreneurs, and community leaders,” said Jill Halyk, executive director of the Workforce Planning Board. “This Welcome to Norfolk video celebrates the wonderful quality of life Norfolk provides to all of its residents.”

The video was developed by Norfolk County and the Grand Erie Immigration Partnership, an initiative of The Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie, one of 26 non-profit organizations in Ontario that play a leadership role in labour force planning.
