"The True History of Anthony Ffryar" by Arthur Gray tells the story of the final days of Anthony Ffryar, a sixteenth-century priest and alchemist from Jesus College. Following the outbreak of an epidemic known as "the sweat" and the subsequent college closure, Ffryar is left entirely alone except for one college servant, who locks himself away in his laboratory. He is determined to finally discover the magisterium, the master cure for all human ailments. But as in all good stories, the tale has a spectral twist.
