Hajimete-no-Jinja – Gokito (Prayer Service)

Описание к видео Hajimete-no-Jinja – Gokito (Prayer Service)

When visiting a Shinto shrine, for the first time or even the eleventh time, a person can feel unconfident and wonder "is this really the right way to pay my respects"? This video, "Hajimete-no-Jinja – Gokito (Prayer Service)" explains the Shinto gokito ceremony and how to request a prayer service at a jinja (shrine).

Safe home, successful business, easy pregnancy, passing a test, or warding off evil... a gokito is a formal prayer service offering personal requests to the kami (deities). The ritual consists of purification, reciting the request, and then offerings of a dance and tamagushi (sakaki plant). Afterwards you will receive an o-fuda (amulet). It is from the kami so do handle it with care. At home, place it on the kamidana or an o-fuda stand and continue to pay your respects.

Kamidana-no-sato is proud to offer the largest selection of Shinto household shrines (kamidana) in Japan. We want to make it easier for people to pay their respects and be shrine savvy, so we put together the video series "Hajimete-no-Jinja" (First Shinto Shrine).
