Welcome to this full Transavia Trip Report, flying from Amsterdam to Gran Canaria onboard one of Transavia’s brand-new Airbus A321neo, on a beautiful spring morning.
This early morning flight from Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) to Las Palmas, Gran Canaria (LPA) turned out to be a very comfortable experience and my first time flying the A321neo with Transavia. After exploring Schiphol Airport — currently undergoing major renovations — and enjoying a productive planespotting session, we boarded Transavia’s first A321neo for this route.
Due to minor gate delays and a long taxi at Amsterdam Airport, we took off right at sunrise… and what a moment it was. The warm orange light of the early morning sun combined with low fog created one of the most spectacular takeoffs I’ve experienced in a long time.
Our route took us over Belgium and France, passing Paris on the left before heading toward Nantes. We then crossed the Bay of Biscay, entered Spain over Oviedo (Asturias), continued toward Lisbon, and finally headed southwest over the Atlantic Ocean toward the Canary Islands.
Along the way, we had to navigate around significant weather systems, including large storm clouds linked to Storm Olivier, which was moving from the Canary Islands toward mainland Spain. Massive vertical cloud formations and cumulonimbus clouds made this an especially interesting flight to observe.
