Today we are writing about the Dream Archetype, the Divine Child. This is going to be a very quick five min exercise to gently wake us and our creativity up this Sunday morning.
This exercise is based of this dream pack from Readers Digest which comes with a book. a dream journal and these dream cards. I like these writing exercises that I created based off these cards because I am convinced that dreams are the last frontier of original ideas. I got the idea for my first novel, Black Water Tales: The Secret Keepers from a dream and I know that many of you get your ideas from dreams as well so it’s super important that we nurture our dreams so that they continue to give us amazing visions.
These dream cards have archetypes and themes just like stories and these cards help us to recognize these decadent layers that can be added to our stories and help us to better explore them.
So back to the Divine Child. According to this card, the Divine Child is, “An embodiment of innocence and purity, the Divine Child usually appears as a baby or infant who is vulnerable yet powerful, able to transform and regenerate. This archetype reminds us of our origins and of a time when we were free from tyranny of the ego (the conscious aspect of self). The reawakening of this child can diminish the pains of adulthood and help us to reconnect with our early potential.”
So I want you to take 5 minutes, I have already taken my five minutes and write about a dream where you may have experienced the Divine Child. Perhaps if you think about it, you can pull one from your dream last night but it does not have to have been from last night, it could have been from a dream from another night, write more about this divine child, who it is, who it represents, etc. Perhaps you have a child in your current WIP that represents this archetype and you didn’t even know it, how can you further this character as a powerful archetype, etc. Take 5 mins now, hit pause.
Hopefully, after that exercise you have a better understanding of this archetype and how you can use it in your stories in the future.
